Fitness is a growing trend and an important element in the concept of whole-body wellness. Even if you do not have workout equipment in your spa, you can still implement some of the latest programs and offerings to stay active and healthy. In addition, consider offering some of these in your spa, if possible, to help your clients in their wellness journey and boost business.
First, let’s take a look at what’s trending. Canfitpro recently released results from its 2023 health and fitness trend survey. It revealed the top 10 fitness programming trends in Canada for 2024 designed to help create more balance in one’s lifestyle and to help them achieve healthy aging and whole-body wellness:
- Active Aging and Older Adult Training (stay mobile as you age)
- Functional Fitness (bodyweight, balance-stability, and core training)
- Mental Health and Stress Management Programs (mindfulness and meditation)
- Active Recovery and Regeneration (foam rollers, handheld percussive devices, cryotherapy)
- Group Fitness Classes and Programs (customized classes, Tabata classes, stretching, tai chi)
- Personal Training
- Mind Body Programs
- Upskilling (education and self-learning)
- Online Personal Training/Fitness Classes/ Wellness Coaching
- Meal Planning and Nutritional Programs
As you can see, there are many areas of fitness that are essential for wellness, and most of these don’t have to do with lifting weights. In addition to these great findings, I’ve recently come across some fitness-related programs that I encourage you to research and consider in your own personal wellness journey:
- Cozy Cardio: Not everyone is looking for HIIT-level classes. Think self-care, gentle yoga, low-impact dance, tai chi, and qigong.
- Pickleball: It’s a wonderful new sport, but needs to be introduced and played in moderation because hospitals are seeing many injuries related to the sport.
- Hybrid Workout: I like this one, as it ts with how people live today. The hybrid program includes in spa workouts with at-home regimens via virtual video-style training.
- Technology-Driven Fitness: Apps like Physmodo use computer vision to deliver quick and easily repeatable movement assessments to quantify how one’s body moves and allow users to track their progress daily.
- Women’s Hormone Therapy: It’s all about living better and aging gracefully. Discover new ways to use data to support women in all phases of their wellness journey, from menstrual cycle and workout routine to nutrition, recovery, and more.
- Sleep: We don’t need double-blind studies to tell us that calm and restful sleep improves everything about the mind and body. There are many treatments, products, devices, and apps to help improve sleep.
- Vibration Devices: I’ve been using Power Plate equipment for more than 10 years. It’s part of my morning routine. It gets the “oil” moving in the body and makes my day run smoother.
Be sure to let me know how you plan to incorporate health and fitness into your personal your life and your spa’s wellness offerings.
