How to Be a More Accessible Leader in Your Business

Spa coach, Steve Gomez, provides his tips for being the best leader possible while being more accessible in your spa business.

Being a leader in the beauty business means being accessible to your team and to the business itself. However, most owners spend the majority of their time with clients behind the chair or a closed door in a treatment room. It then becomes very challenging to give the proper time, attention, and presence to the important resources the business has---it’s people!

So, what can you do?

For starters, replace at least two days as a service provider. This may sound challenging yet, it’s vital to future growth and sustainability.

Here’s how you do it:

Take what you produce daily (get a 3-month average) and then add whatever your current commission or payroll percentage is, plus payroll tax. Then add in your current backbar percentage and your current credit card processing.

Now, why do this? Well, when you move clients to other team members, you have to pay them and cover the hard cost of the work.

Here’s an example:

Average per Day: $500

Current payroll % for Service Providers: 50% adds on another $250.

Payroll Tax %: 12% adds on another $30 ($250 X 12% = $30)

Back Bar %: 7% adds on another $35.

Credit Card Processing %: 2% adds on another $10.

Therefore, when you work one day less you need to ensure sales growth of $825 a day to replace the day and still have the business generate what it needs. ($500 a day sales average plus expenses).

How do you get there?

  1. Ensure a proper hand-off of clients to team members. Have them assist you with the client you will give to them at least two to three times so they can get their hands and heart involved with that client and build rapport for both sides. This will ensure most of the $500 a day is captured.
  2. The remaining $325 can be captured via add on treatments and marketing high-end services plus retail growth.

Once you get to this point (usually a three-to-four-month journey), you’ve now given yourself the needed time to run your business and connect with your team to guide and support them! That first day is the start, the second business day can be attained using the same approach!

Think about it. In the next six to eight months, you can transform the very nature of how you run your company, achieving more balance, results, and growth. Not only is it worth it, it’s critical to the success of everyone involved!

If you want to learn more and get the spreadsheets and systems to make this transition more achievable, go to my store and get my combination package, which gives you access to both of my books, which will include the “How to Replace A Day” spreadsheet and all of the meeting and one-on-one templates that support you to coach your team!

One day at a time! One client at a time! One team member at a time and you will get to where you want to be! You deserve it.
