Meet Lana Labrecque, director of spa at Acqualina Spa at Acqualina Resort & Residences on the Beach (Miami), who has 21 years of experience in the spa and hospitality industry.
What was the path that led you into the spa industry?
I have a deep love for helping people feel their best and reconnect with a sense of calm and confidence.
What are the most challenging and rewarding parts of being in the spa industry?
The biggest challenge is not having enough time to try all the innovative trends emerging in the industry, but the greatest reward is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we encounter.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
I take great pride in building strong leaders. Nothing is more fulfilling than seeing my team eager to learn, grow, and evolve.
What has surprised you most about working in the spa industry?
How close the community is, even though it is a very large market, it is a small community with deeply passionate people.
Where do you think the industry is heading?
The future of our industry lies in longevity and preventive wellness. Guests increasingly view spa experiences not as occasional luxuries, but as essential elements of a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
What’s your favorite skincare ingredient?
Hyaluronic acid is my favorite ingredient. Universally beneficial and deeply hydrating, it’s the ultimate hero in any skincare routine.
What positions have you worked in that you feel have been most influential to your career?
My career began as an intern and spa attendant, and over time, I’ve worked in every position even as a spa therapist. Each role has contributed something meaningful to the journey that shaped my career.
Was there a time you had to make a decision in your career that ended up changing your destiny?
Leaving the treatment room to become a spa operations supervisor was a decision filled with uncertainty. I worried I might miss the hands-on connection but embracing that risk has allowed my career to grow in ways beyond my expectations.
If you could work in any other profession in the world, what would it be?
I’d probably choose marketing. I love storytelling, and it still comes down to creating that emotional connection and trust.
How would you sum up your personal philosophy?
My guiding principle is the Golden Rule: treat others as you wish to be treated and embrace joy throughout the process.
How do you like to spend your time away from work?
Whether I’m spending time with my family, exploring somewhere new, or just sitting outside with a good book, those moments bring me joy.
What are your three greatest priorities in life?
Health, family, and friends.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Life is precious, and tomorrow is never guaranteed. Live fully indulged in the moments that bring you joy.
