Be+Well New York Classes:
What makes you passionate about your class topics?
I’m thrilled to be lecturing/presenting on two different but equally passionate topics this year. The first more business-related has to do with creating a beautifully balanced “esthetic business eco-system.” By nature of the definition itself, an eco-system is a well-balanced harmonious operating system that allows many different aspects to run at the same time but not one be more important that the other. It creates an environment where if we give focus and equal attention to just a few operational systems we can create a driven force for growth and success. It’s all about focus, balance, healthy business, and evolving into a “thrive" environment rather than a “survive” culture.
My second topic helps to put our patients in the passenger seat and allows them to understand the importance of at home skin care. By empowering our patients with an understanding of how our skin ages and all the factors that play a role both intrinsically and extrinsically we are able to retail to them smarter and more effectively. By a cooperative understanding, we are encouraging better decisions to be made at home daily and simplified. In this lecture, I bring it back to my ACES methodology for retailing at home skincare. I’ve taken this method all across Canada and the U.S. and it’s been proven to work for our patients at home but more importantly it allows esthetic professionals in our industry to prescribe homecare without feeling “salesy” or pushy!
If you could attend one class at Be+Well New York (besides yours), which would it be and why?
I’m totally biased because she is a good friend but more so Charmaine Cooper is an outstanding educator and speaker. Her class "
Advanced Care for Melanin-Rich Skin: Science & Precision-Centric Protocols" is incredibly important. Esthetics for too long from an academic perspective, have given and continue to give way too little information on how we should be treating our melanin-rich patients. Charmaine is here paving the way and teaching us how to respect, treat, welcome, and create an environment where these patients feel understood, seen, and treated correctly, not just through trial and unfortunately error.
What brands are you most interested in checking out on the Be+Well New York show floor?
I’m personally interested in meeting with some private formulators. I’m a skincare junky but formulation and ingredient science is my jam!
What's a new skill or topic you want to learn/perfect this year?
Everything! I’m an individual who tends to read a lot of clinical data and white papers about advancements in our industry, especially cosmetic medicine. It’s evolving daily and so rapidly. I like to learn something new weekly. That also applies to business and strategy. I learn most from the attendees and the people inside and outside my network. Business strategy in our industry is also rapidly evolving and demand is high. The last year or so I’ve been obsessed with neuro-economics. We are in a relationship and psychologically driven field. Having a better understanding of how our patients feel, seek us out, and choose us will make me a better provider and consultant/coach.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
How about a quote instead by Simon Sinek: “If you don’t understand people, you don’t understand business."
For readers who have never attended an industry trade show, what's the number-one reason they should attend?
At the pace that we are all working at, it is so easy to get caught up in our own world and many times, as entrepreneurs or as professionals, we feel that the world around us is small or we navigate life in our own bubble. Then you go to a trade show like this, and you see just how big our industry is, and realize that this is only a small portion of it when we think about it on a national or global scale. It gives us perspective that we are not alone, and that we can meet people like us and network and raise the tide of our industry as a whole. It gives you an opportunity to understand community and colleagues. Lastly, education and knowledge is power. How empowering for yourself to grow and learn!
Why should attendees take a conference class?
Just like I mentioned above, it is a privilege to be able to learn and expand our knowledge. The conference classes have some of the best professionals in our industry. These speakers have made a name for themselves by continuing to provide education and insight to the community of professionals in aesthetics. They want to see you grow, develop and thrive!
